  • Résumé

    La quête d’identité des Łemki est complexe : elle touche de très près la question des relations polono-ukrainiennes, ainsi que celle des conflits religieux entre chrétiens d’Occident et chrétiens d’Orient. Mais elle nous obligera aussi à nous pencher sur les rapports avec les autres minorités avec lesquelles ils ont été en contact. Comment et pourquoi cette identité résiste-t-elle, sur quoi cette volonté de préserver cette identité est-elle fondée ? Qu’est-ce qui est si spécifique et qui fait que cette population continue à préserver ce patrimoine ? Nous essaierons également de comprendre de quelle manière cette identité « menacée » évolue dans le milieu le plus souvent « hostile » qui l’entoure : serait-ce lié aux anciens Empires dans lesquelles elle a longtemps existé, ou est-ce dû à la naissance des États-Nations ? Il nous faudra donc aussi nous demander de quelle manière les revendications identitaires se manifestent finalement dans ce contexte compliqué et comment elles transparaissent dans les expressions artistiques et culturelles, dans l’architecture et le discours de cette minorité.

    The Łemki’s search for identity is a complex one: it closely relates to the question of Polish-Ukrainian relations, as well as that of religious conflicts between Western and Eastern Christians. But it will also make us study the relations with other minorities with which they were in contact. How and why does this identity withstand, what is the willpower to protect this identity based on? What is so specific that makes this community continue to protect its heritage? We will also aim at understanding how this “threatened” identity develops in an environment that is mostly “hostile”: is it linked to the former Empires where it used to exist, or is it because of the birth of nation states? We will thus wonder how identity statements reveal themselves in this intricate context and how they appear through artistic and cultural expressions, in this community’s architecture and speech.

    Poszukiwania tożsamości Łemków to sprawa skomplikowana. Dotyczy bezpośrednio problemu relacji polsko-ukraińskich, a także konfliktów religijnych między zachodnim i wschodnim chrześcijaństwem. Badanie wymaga także pochylenia się nad relacjami Łemków z innymi mniejszościami narodowymi, z którymi mieli kontakt. Dzięki czemu i w jaki sposób ich tożsamość mogła przetrwać ? Co sprawia, że społeczność Łemków wciąż przechowuje swoje dziedzictwo ? Postaramy się także zrozumieć, jak owa „zagrożona” tożsamość ewoluowała w otaczającym ją, „wrogim” środowisku. Czy było to związane z dawnymi imperiami, w ramach których Łemkowie istnieli od zawsze, a może z narodzinami państw narodowych ? W badaniu odpowiemy też na pytanie, w jaki sposób żądania dotyczące uznania ich tożsamości przejawiają się w tak złożonym kontekście społecznym i jak przenikają do twórczości artystycznej i kulturalnej, znajdując swój wyraz w architekturze i dyskursie tej mniejszości.
