  • Résumé

    Cette thèse se propose d'analyser la représentation des Arméniens dans un corpus composé de romans publiés entre 1960 et 2010 par des écrivains turcs. L'objectif est d'illustrer concrètement les influences réciproques entre littérature et société. En effet, les Arméniens constituaient dans l'Empire ottoman une minorité importante avant le génocide arménien, alors qu'en parallèle le genre romanesque se diffusait. On postule donc que la représentation des Arméniens est un élément important dans le récit des écrivains turcs. On cherche à démontrer que les représentations des Arméniens dans les récits peuvent aussi influencer en Turquie les dimensions politiques et sociales, morales et générationnelles. Pour cela, la première partie de notre thèse fournit un état des lieux du sujet, ainsi qu'une histoire du roman, en supposant qu'il existe un lien entre le roman turc et l'Histoire. La deuxième partie pose l’hypothèse que les Arméniens sont un sujet politique et tend à démontrer chronologiquement qu'il existe une constante de la représentation des Arméniens chez les romanciers turcs jusqu'aux années 1990, à mettre en regard de la politique nationale. Dans une dernière partie, nous nous concentrons sur les évolutions récentes depuis 1990, comme la présence de nouveaux thèmes littéraires et sur l'influence du social sur la littérature, à travers la littérature mémorielle issue des récits de grand-mères d'origine arménienne. Dans cette perspective, l'évolution de la représentation des Arméniens par le romancier turc peut se lire comme un témoin de la maturation progressive du roman turc.

    This thesis proposes to analyze the representation of Armenians in a body of work composed of novels published between 1960 and 2010 by Turkish writers. The objective is to concretely illustrate the reciprocal influences between literature and society. Historically, Armenians represented a significant minority in the Ottoman Empire before the Armenian genocide, the same period when the novel genre was spreading. It is therefore proposed that the representation of Armenian characters is an important element in the narrative of Turkish writers. We also seek to demonstrate that the representations of Armenian characters in the stories can also influence political and social, moral, and generational dimensions in Turkey. To do this, the first part of our thesis provides a description of the context, as well as a history of the novel (assuming that there is a link between the Turkish novel and history). The second part advances the hypothesis that Armenians are a political subject and that there is a representation of Armenian characters that is consistent among Turkish novelists until the 1990s, as compared with national politics. Finally, we focus on the latest developments since 1990, with the appearance of new literary themes and on the influence of the social developments on literature, influenced by ancestral stories of Armenian origin. From this perspective, the evolution of the representation of Armenian characters by Turkish novelists can be read as a testimony to the progressive maturation of the Turkish novel.
