La tetralogie romanesque de tchicaya s'apparente a un vaste panorama de la societe congolaise d'avant et apres les independances; aux nombreux indices historiques judicieusement dissemines et inegalement repartis dans les quatre volumes, l'auteur y joint une dimension ethnologique; les us et coutumes du peuple vili, dont il est originaire. Une ecriture mosaique privilegiant le melange des genres litteraires, s'articulant autour d'une multiplicite des points de vue, a travers des recits delinearises et enchevetres annoncent la "nouvelle ecole" des romanciers africains depuis 1968 dont tchicaya fait partie, en depit de son anciennete sur la scene litteraire du continent africain (1955).

Résumé
The tetralogy of tchicaya's novels is a vast panorama of the congolese society before and after the declarations of independance of the african countries. To the numerous historical indications judiciously disseminated and unequally divided up throughout the four volumes, the author has added an ethnological dimension of the traditions and customs of the vili people from whom stem his origins. A chequered style of writing privileges the amalgame of literary genre, articulating around a multiplicity of point of views through delinearary and confused structure heralds the "new wave" of african novelists (since 1968) to which tchicaya belongs, in spite of his long presence on the literary scene of the african continent (since 1955).
