Résumé

Aux États-Unis, l'archéologie historique est l'une des disciplines qui se développe le plus rapidement au sein de l'archéologie. Depuis ses origines, au début du XXe siècle, avec la reconstruction et la restauration de sites historiques associes aux pères fondateurs, l'archéologie historique a accrue ses perspectives en incluant les investigations archéologiques dans toutes les couches de la société américaine. Dans les 30 dernières années le développement de cette discipline est le miroir des transformations qui ont pris place dans la société américaine. La manière à laquelle l'archéologie historique reflète et contribue à définir l'identité américaine est explorée.

Résumé

In the United States, historical archaeology is one of the fastest growing disciplines in the field of archaeology. From its origins in the early twentieth century with the reconstruction and restoration of historical sites associated with the founding fathers, historical archaeology has expanded its perspectives to encompass archaeological investigations of all strata of American society. The development of the discipline over the past thirty years is a mirror of the transformations which have taken place in American society. The manner in which historical archaeology reflects and contributes to the American identity is explored.
