Résumé

Cet ouvrage se donne pour objectif l'analyse d'un certain nombre d'occurrences de l'auxiliaire modal anglais should et de son equivalents francais. L'etude montre que la presence de certains indices contextuels favorise l'apparition d'une valeur precise du marqueur. De plus, la diversite des equivalents francais de should semble pouvoir s'expliquer par un processus de dematerialisation interne a l'auxiliaire modal.

Résumé

This work aims at analysing the various occurrences of the modal auxiliary should in the english language and its equivalents in the french language. Such an analysis tends to prove that the contextual environment is closely linked to a specific meaning of should. Besides, the variety of the many french equivalents can be explained by a subduction process within the modal verb.
