Résumé

Le sculpteur Guillaume Boichot (1735 Chalon-sur-Saône - 1814 Paris) fut actif en Bourgogne et à Paris ou à partir de la Révolution, il exécuta de nombreux travaux pour le compte du gouvernement. Sa production (sculptures, peintures, dessins) est révélatrice de la diversité des tendances stylistiques qui parcourent l'art de la deuxième moitié du dix-huitième siècle. La plupart de ses oeuvres caracterisées par les références à l'Antiquité ou à Poussin se rattachent sans conteste au néo-classicisme. Toutefois, Boichot au début de sa carrière tourna son regard vers le baroque et fut constamment attiré par l'oeuvre de Michel-Ange et l'art maniériste, adoptant le style des peintres de l'école de Fontainebleau et de Jean Goujon.

Résumé

The sculptor Guillaume Boichot (1735 Chalon-sur-Saône - 1814 Paris) was active in Burgondy and in Paris where he executed many works for the government since the Revolution. His production (sculptures, paintings, drawings) denotes the diversity of the stylistic tendencies that go through the art of the second half of the eighteenth century. Most of his works caracterized by the references to antiquity and to poussin are indisputably connected with neo-classicism. However the artist was influenced by the baroque at the beginning of his career and was constantly attracted by the work of Michel-Ange and the mannerist art, adopting the painter's style of Fontainebleau school and Jean Goujon's.
