Résumé

A été formulée l'hypothèse selon laquelle un homme qui ne possède plus les indicateurs empiriquement repérables de l'humanité de l'homme (anencéphale) n'est plus évalué comme étant tout à fait un être humain, du point de vue de son répertoire comportemental présumé. Deux expérimentations montrent que la valeur sociale de la cible comportementale, le statut religieux du sujet répondant, l'ordre des entités à évaluer (anencéphale, typicité de l'homme, communalité entre l'homme et l'animal) interviennent dans l'évaluation du monstre humain. Une troisième expérimentation montre que la sémantique dérivée du traitement visuel du visage de l'anencéphale s'apparenterait à celle dérivée de l'évocation de la communalité entre l'homme et l'animal d'une part, et à celle produite par l'évocation de l'humanité de l'homme d'autre part.

Social evaluation of human facial monstruosity

Résumé

Has been tested the hypothesis that a man who has no more human facial attributes (anencephalia) is evaluated as a non-human being from a list of presumed behaviors. Two experiments show that the social evaluation of the anencephalia's face varies according to the social values implicated in the chosen behaviors, the religious status of the experimental subjects, the order of the evaluation processing (anencephalia, human specificity, communality between human being and animal). A third experiment shows that the semantic representation following the visual treatment of the face of the human monster is well connected to the semantic representation evocated by the communality between human being and animal first, and well connected to the semantic representation evocated by the specificity of human being.
