Résumé

Cette enquete vise a fournir une argumentation theorique et methodologique a l'appui d'une proposition de j. Hicks (1965) selon laquelle l'economie du developpement n'a pas d'objet propre. L'etayage de cette proposition est organise autour de la refutation d'approches en termes de rapport salarial qui sont exemplaires de la systematisation de l'idee que le tiers-monde possede d'une specificite irreductible. Cette refutation s'inscrit dans une critique qu'on appelle holistique en reference a la these duhem-quine. La premiere partie vise a reperer l'inconsistance des arguments et les failles de demonstration de ces approches a partir de leur propre corps d'enonces et a travers la fonction qui y remplit la reference serree au statut marchand du rapport salarial. La seconde partie procede a l'examen des sous-bassements methodologiques en mettant au jour les defauts qui grevent le traitement reserve aux processus historiques, le schema d'explication retenu et les presupposes normatifs.

A holistic critical approach to the political economy of the third world. - an illustrative example through the problem of wage equivalence

Résumé

The aim of this research is to provide a theoretical and methodological framework in support of the proposition evoked by j. Hicks (1965) which states that development economics has no object in itself. To elucidate this proposition, we assess different approaches by using the wage relation question. The latter is exemplary in forging the image of the irreducible specificity of the third world. Our evaluation follows a "holistic' critical method consistent with the duhem - quine thesis. The fist part endeavours to reveal the argumental inconsistencies and demonstrative shortcoming of the various methods by close reference to their proper terms and through the function they use in encapsulating the commercial status of the wage relation. We then proceed to closely scrutinise the intelligibility mode that presides over the specificity of the wage relationl we hihlight the weaknesses that have tainted the treatment given over to historical processes, the explanatory path that has been reatined, and the normative presuppositions.
