Résumé

Comment définir l'Orient istratien ? Tout d'abord, nous avons cerné la perception d'une réalité orientale, dans le contexte historique, trois romans istratiens et la littérature française à l'aube du XXe siècle, mais la représentation de l'Orient réside dans l'aventure des héros entre les balkans et le bassin méditérranéen, Orient géographique de l'auteur. Car Istrati est lui-même oriental. Ces contrées et leurs habitants n'ont, pour lui aucun exotisme. Les errements révèlent le personnage oriental, dont le sens de la convivialité et de l'amitié prédomine. Pourtant subsiste une contradiction orientale, entre liberté et fatalité, gloire et refus de toute responsabilité. La déchirure se résoud dans l'écriture istratienne, qui puise dans les sources folkloriques et les contes. Une étude détaillée de deux romans istratiens, confrontés à des contes traditionnels et à un récit des mille et une nuits,prouve l'originalité du conte istratien. Les mots roumains et orientaux se mêlent au français, de façon à créer un style spécifique. L'Orient istratien est un orient véçu.

How can define the istratian Orient ? Firstly, we describe the perception of an eastern reality, in the historical context, three istratian novels and french literature at he end of the XIXth century. But the representation of the istratian Orient lies in the main character's adventures between the balkan countries and the mediterranean coasts, the author's geographical orient. Becaus Istrati is himself an oriental. These travels reveal the eastern character. He has a great sense of conviviality and friendship. Nevertheless, an oriental contradiction remains, between freedom and fatalism, glory and the refutation of any responsibility. The contradiction finds its resolution in the istratian style. Th efolk tales are the sources. But a detailed study of two istratian novels, compared to romanian tales and a strory from the arabian nights,proves the originality of the istratian novel. Romanian and oriental words blend with french, in order to create a specific style. The istratian Orient is an Orient he has lived in.
