Résumé

"le mythe, affirme r. Wagner est la matiere ideale du poete". Et jacques rabemananjara, poete n'a pu qu'y trouver son compte. Creer un mythe de la grande ile et une mythologie pour madagascar, tel a toujours ete le grand reve nourri par celui qu'on appelle aujourd'hui le plus grand poete malgache. Son apprentissage du mythe, il l'a fait a l'ombre de la tradition et des cosmogonies malgaches, puis a l'ecole occidentale ou il a decouvert les mythologies : - judeo-chretiennes, - greco-latines, - italienne et asiatiques, - enfin modernes. Mais a vrai dire, ces diverses influences d'ici et d'ailleurs n'auront fait qu'eveiller l'instinct mythique qui couvait deja en le poete. Se posait seulement le probleme du comment arriver a traduire en francais les mythes specifiquement malgaches dont il etait porteur. Grace a son symbolisme congenital, sa puissante imagination et sur- tout sa maitrise de la langue francaise, rabemananjara a su donner au mythe, propriete de l'universel, une empreinte toute personnelle. Résumé

"myth, as r. Wagner puts it, is the poet's ideal field". Rabemananjara the poet, predictably, did well out of it (got something own of it). The creation of a myth for madagascar has always been the dream of the one (he whom) whom many now regard as the greatest malagasy poet. Rabemananjara had his first experience into myths through tradition and malagasy cosmogonies, then in western schools were he discovered - judeo-christian. -greco-latin - italian. - asian and - modern mythologies. But, in fact, those various influences just helped stimulate the my- thical instinct already underlying in the poet's imagination. The only problem he was faced with was the translation into french those typically malagasy myths he knew. Thanks to his congenital symbolism, his powerful imagination and, above all, his command of the french language, rabemananjara has given to myth, a universal property, a personal imprint.
