Profondement marque par son enfance, par celle des siens ou de son entourage, v. Hugo porte au monde de l'enfance en general, beaucoup d'interet, dans son oeuvre litteraire. Une partie importante de sa pensee philosophie et sociale s'exprime a travers ce theme : l'innocence angelique des petits le fascine et leur authenticite lui revele la bonte primitive de l'etre humain. Mais d'autre part, l'ingratitude du monde et les conditions de vie lamentables des enfants le choquent particulierement. Il trouve, du moins le croit-il, que la puissance de l'enfance doit vaincre le mal. C7est "la souverainete des choses innocentes" qui agit meme sur nous et nous incite a considerer l'enfant comme un mediateur. L'enfant d'aujourd'hui n'est que l'homme de demain. Ainsi faut-il le soutenir en tant qu'etre faible, demuni, et le respecter, l'aimer, en tant qu'etre nouveau, porteur de nouvelles visions du monde et de beaucoup d'espoir pour l'avenir.

Résumé
Victor hugo, who was profoundly marked by his own childwood and by that of his children and his society, gave the world of the child great importance in the course of his literary work. An important part of his philosophical and social thought is expressed through this theme : the angelic innocence of the child fascinates him whilst their autenticity, for him, reveals the primitive generosity of humanity. On the other hand, the world's ingratitude and the terrible living conditions of children were particularly shocking to him. He found that the power of childwood must conquer evil. It represents "the sovereignty of innocent things" which acts even on us provoking us to consider the child in the role of a mediator. To day's the child is simply to morrow's man. Thus it's necessary to support such a vulnerable individual, to offer the child respect and love as a new being, a bearer of new visions of the world and of hope for the future.
