    Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are an electrochemical system which can produce electricity directly from oxidation of organic material by microorganism as biocatalyst. Organic material as fuel in MFC may varied from simple substances such as glucose and acetate to complex substances such as waste water. MFCs offer more advantages since it can simultaneously generate electricity while treat waste water. The two fundamental configuration of MFC are double-chambered microbial fuel cell (DCMFC) and single-chambered microbial fuel cell (SCMFC). The SCMFC with air-cathode has been attracting great interest of many researcher in MFCs development because of its several advantages. This system could eliminate the requirement of energy input when loading oxygen as terminal electron acceptor since the air-cathode is designed directly exposure to free air
