  • Résumé

For the several past decades, Iraq has been plagued by armed conflict and violence, in the domestic arena as well as in the surrounding states. This conflict-ridden period has included all from regime changes to the political repression of civilians, putting the Iraqi population in an extraordinarily difficult situation regarding personal safety, private economics and social life. This difficult situation for them has translated into various phenomena of internal and external displacements. The present doctoral thesis draws on ethnographical work in Jordan and Iraqi Kurdistan and seeks to investigate how the Iraqi population have dealt with their unfortunate reality in terms of migration, life in exile and experiences of violence.
