  • Abstract

    The ultimate goal of this PhD thesis (3-year) is to investigate the influence of the passive film formed on pure aluminium substrate, on model aluminium-copper alloy (containing 5 % wt. of Cu) and industrial alloys (AA 2024 and AA2050) on their corrosion properties in neutral electrolyte with and without chloride ions. The work will be divided into two principal parts: 1) The electrochemical studies combined with characterization by surface techniques X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), and Time-of-Flight Secondary Ions Mass Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS), 2) The surface studies of the model poly and single crystalline substrates.
