  • Résumé

[ Résumé en anglais] the aim of this work is firstly, to retrospectively trac"e the ontogeny of feeding preferences in the cuttlefish S. Officianalis, and secondly, to study the neurobiological mechanisms underlying learning and memory of this food choice. First, we showed that adult cuttlefish from the same fishing ground have different but stable preference either for crabs, or for shrimps. Furthermore, they are able to stop attacking their preferred prey made distasteful, and to retain these informations for several days. As for juveniles, our results confirm that naïve cuttlefish spontaneously prefer shrimps. This preference is still prevailing throuhout the first two months of postembryonic development and then, their diet begins to diversify and to widen to oter prey-species. This innate preference is modifiable by early experience since it is possible to induce a preference for crabs (non preferred prey) by a single eating or visual exposure to this prey immediatly after hatching. These imprinting-like processes need to be further investigated. Last, by combining lesional and histochemecal techniques we showed that long-term memory (LTM) formation is vertical lobe-dependent. We also confirmed that the posterior superior frontal lobe - a multimodal convergence site - is involved in LTM consolidation and that the vertical lobe is involved in longer term memory.
